In Part 2 of Episode 41, Chris talks about his experiences in sober living and the things that he has learned from the process — from opening up about things that he didn’t know about himself, to working with families to help illuminate issues within their dynamic.

American Addiction Centers (AAC) presents “Far From Finished,” a weekly podcast that shares the real-life stories of people who survived addiction to thrive in recovery. In Part 2 of Episode 41, Chris talks about how the cycle of addiction (going in and out of treatment) loomed over his life. Burned out, he finally dropped himself into structured sober living where he saw people who were being constructive in trying to shift their perspective and turn their lives away from addiction. Realizing the gravity of his situation, Chris stayed a little longer than a year because it was important for him to be around the people who kept him accountable as a man in recovery. Eventually he began managing that sober home. While managing the sober home, Chris decided to go back to school to take cultural anthropology and education classes which expanded his perspective. Utilizing what he learned through school and sober living, Chris became really good at dealing with co-dependents and helping families. Now the Founder/Program Director of Ethos Recovery, Chris continues to work with families using what he learned in sober living, to establish everything from peer feedback to mentor programs for them. Chris believes he’s been given a gift by being able to work with families.Listen on iTunes (2)
