Restoring Dreamland with Sam Quinones

My guest, Sam Quinones, is an award-winning journalist and author, whose book Dreamland is a vital glimpse into the opiate epidemic.

My guest, Sam Quinones, is an award-winning journalist and author, who spent a decade reporting in Mexico before joining the Los Angeles Times to cover stories related to the immigrant community. After ten years at the LA Times, Sam left to follow a new story: the opiate epidemic. His ensuing book, Dreamland, is a vital glimpse into that world and has gained widespread acclaim, from the National Book Critics Circle to Marc Maron to the Senate Health Committee.

He sat down with me at the Innovations in Recovery conference to explain how shifting cultural priorities and values left American communities vulnerable to the opioid crisis and how the lessons from Dreamland can help the addiction treatment field address the preeminent health issue of our time.
